Huge explosions lit the night sky in the direction of the southern Iraqi city ofBasra early today, a witness said from near theIraq-Kuwait border.
"We can see huge explosions and fireballs on the horizontowards Basra," a Reuters correspondent said from avantage point overlooking the frontier about 50 kilometressouth of Basra.
He said he could hear heavy USbombers flying overhead. The explosions seemed more intense thanduring a barrage that launched a US-led invasion yesterday.
