A Co Tipperary man who took legal proceedings alleging negligence in his treatment in a Co Tipperary hospital has settled his High Court case for €2.25 million.

Mr Jonathan Tully (28), of Main Street, Ballyporeen, claimed negligence at St Joseph's Hospital, Nenagh after he was admitted there following a motorcycle accident in 1997.

The action was taken against the Mid-Western Health Board, proprietor the hospital; Dr Sohail Shahzad, a doctor at the hospital; and Dr David McAvinchey, a consultant surgeon there.

When the case came before Mr Justice de Valera today, he was told the action had been settled for €2.25 million. The settlement was without admission of liability.

Mr Tully was involved in a motor cycle accident on August 23rd, 1997, as a result of which he received severe injuries and was rendered unconscious.

He was admitted by ambulance to St Joseph's General Hospital at 11.45 p.m. before being transferred to Limerick General Hospital. The action was taken following Mr Tully's treatment at the Nenagh hospital.
