Torrential rain continued to hit the south-east yesterday following Sunday's constant downpour.
In Wexford town, a number of houses were flooded in King Street and Bishopswater on Sunday night and emergency services were on stand-by following further rain yesterday.
The county appeared to be the worst hit, with floods in the Caim and Ballybrennan areas as well as in Enniscorthy and Arthurstown. Roads in Clonroche were submerged under two feet of water. In Waterford city, the Tramore Road was closed yesterday due to severe flooding.
Dungarvan experienced the worst of the flooding due to high tides.
The main road into Woodstown was also affected as was the Waterford-Dunmore East road at Ballinakill.
In south Tipperary and Kilkenny, all main roads were reported to be passable and no major flooding had been reported.
There were reports of slight flooding on many roads throughout the south-east, with warning signs placed on a number of roads throughout the region.
Although local authorities were dealing with minor damage to roads due to the rain, the majority remained passable with care and no major incidents had been reported.
Hundreds of homes were without electricity on Sunday night in Co Mayo as the torrential rain and strong gales hit the west of the country.
ESB crews worked overnight and early yesterday morning to restore supplies on Achill Island, in parts of Louisbourgh, in Hollymount and at Ballyheane, outside Castlebar.
An ESB spokesman explained that an electricity pole supplying the area of Corraun on Achill was broken in the storm on Sunday night. "This cut off supply to consumers across the peninsula from Sunday night. In order to repair the pole we were forced to cut off supply to the whole of Achill Island for a few hours yesterday morning. Thousands of households were affected," he explained.
The faults that occurred at Creggaunbawn, outside Louisburgh, and at Hollymount and at Ballyheane left a few hundred Co Mayo people without electricity on Sunday night and Monday morning but the service in all these areas was restored by 11 a.m. yesterday
