Army bomb disposal experts were last night called to the Liberties area of Dublin to deal with a suspicious device that turned out to be a hoax.

The device was discovered at about 9.30pm last night, when a member of the public reported a suspicious object to emergency services.

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene at School St. However, a spokesman for An Garda Siochana said the device was not viable.

The latest hoax comes only days after a controlled exposion was carried out on a vehicle that was thought to contain an explosive device.

Part of Dublin's north city centre was sealed off on Monday after suspicions were raised about an abandoned Nissan Qashqai, which had been stolen in Finglas two weeks ago. The car was found abandoned near the junction of North Frederick Street and Hardwicke Street in the north city centre shortly after 11am.

Police had received information that there may have been an explosive device in the car. However, the bomb disposal team gave the vehicle the all clear later that afternoon.
