Anti-bin tax campaigners had a victory in the courts today when the High Court granted an order quashing the threat by Fingal County Council not to collect household refuse bins which had no payment tag attached.

The order was sought by Socialist Party councillors who argued that non-collection would be in breach of the 1996 Waste Management Act.

A statement issued by the party stated the National Waste database Report (1998) indicated that householders account for only 1.5 per cent of waste produced in the State with the majority of waste accounted for by large-scale agriculture, construction and industry.
