Although trainer Aidan O'Brien has also declared last year's winner Yeats, it appears that is only as a precaution in the event of Septimus not being 100 per cent. No jockey has been booked for Yeats, with stable number one Johnny Murtagh on duty at Doncaster to principally partner Frozen Fire in the Ladbrokes St Leger.

Heffernan won the Irish Derby on Frozen Fire in the summer and Septimus is a 1-2 shot with Cashmans to lift the prize as O'Brien bids to become the first trainer since 1935 to complete a grand slam of victories in the Irish Classics.

He is 4-9 from 2-5 with the Cork firm to achieve the feat, having been 5-2 before winning the Irish Oaks with Moonstone.

O'Brien has also declared New Zealand and Mikhail Fokine. A final field of 10 also includes the Kevin Prendergast-trained pair of Mores Wells and Red Moloney and Hasanka from the John Oxx stable. Jane Chapple-Hyam's Yellowstone is the sole British-trained representative, while Arch Rebel and Savannah are the other runners.
