A Palestinian was accused of ramming a bus into a crowded stop used by Israeli soldiers and civilians south of Tel Aviv yesterday. The following is a chronology of some of the worst attacks and bombings on Israeli buses or at Israeli busstops.

1989: July 6th Abdel-Hadi Suleiman Ghneim (25), of Gaza Strip, seizes the wheel of Israeli bus travelling the main Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway and sends the vehicle plunging into a ravine; 16 Jews die in the bloodiest attack in Israel for 11 years.

1994: April 6th - A bus blast in northern Israeli town of Afula kills eight Israelis and a suicide bomber.

October 19th - A Hamas bomber kills himself and 22 other people in suicide bombing on Israeli bus in Tel Aviv.

1995: January 22nd - Two Islamic Jihad suicide bombers kill 21 Israelis, all but one of them soldiers, in explosions at Beit Lid bus-stop in central Israel.

April 9th - Seven Israelis are killed and at least 40 are wounded in a bus rammed by an explosives-laden car at Kfar Darom settlement in Gaza.

1996: February 25th - Suspected Islamic bombers kill 26 people in separate attacks on Jerusalem bus and in the southern Israeli town of Ashkelon.

March 3rd - A blast in a Jerusalem bus killed at least 18 people and the suicide bomber. The attack occurred on the same route and one week almost to the minute after that carried out the previous Sunday.

1998: October 19th - Palestinian hurls two hand-grenades into a crowded bus station in southern Israel, wounding 66 civilians and soldiers; Hamas claims responsibility.

2000: November 20th - A bomb explodes in front of a Jewish settlers' school bus from Kfar Darom in the Gaza Strip, killing two passengers and wounding nine.
