Psychology course Discovering the structure and psychology of personality, from nine points of view, will form the basis of a series of workshops being organised next week by Enneagram Ireland.

The Enneagram of Personality programme, taught by Prof David Daniels, clinical professor of psychiatry and behavioural science at Stanford University, aims to show how reliance on one point of view can curtail understanding.

One of the founders of Enneagram Ireland, Margaret O'Rorke, said people attending the workshops would learn about other points of view and be introduced to other understandings of reality. An understanding of the Enneagram would enable people to better understand others and also heighten the intensity of their compassion, she said.

"It's suitable for the person who is on a path trying to understand themselves and others better. We get a lot of counsellors, therapists and teachers attending. A lot of teachers find it helps them to understand children better," she said.

The first workshop at the Emmaus conference centre in Swords, July 16th-21st, will examine personality types and is geared to those familiar with the Enneagram personality model. The second workshop at Newtown Castle, Ballyvaughan, Co Clare aims to discover the "hidden keys to transcending the deepest barriers to meaningful leadership transformation and effectiveness".
