Parenting courses in Dublin

The first of a series of parenting courses for all parents organised by One Family, the support group for one-parent families, begins later this month at Cherish House, 2 Lower Pembroke St, Dublin 2. The course, which runs for six weeks, starts on Tuesday, February 24th at 5.45pm. Topics will include active listening, assertive parenting and how parents can be good role models for their children. Carer cutbacks

Many people with Muscular Dystrophy will have much fewer or no personal assistance hours this year, due to health service cutbacks, says Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI).

“Personal assistance hours are the key to an individual’s independence. They enable people to do the basic things like get out of bed, wash, get dressed, prepare meals, go to school or work,” says Joe Mooney of MDI.

The group is running a Have A Heart fundraising campaign on Saturday.

Muscular Dystrophy is the collective name for a range of neuro-muscular conditions characterised by progressive weakening and wasting of muscles.

Cupid’s fun run

Seeking meaning

HSE psychotherapist Therese Hicks will explore the spiritual urge to draw meaning from our lives in a public lecture on Friday in the Jesuit Conference Centre, Milltown Park, Ranelagh, Dublin 6.

She will speak on concepts of archetype, collective unconscious and relationships between physics and psychotherapy.

Seven-day retreat

A seven-day retreat, following the teaching of Sogyal Rinpoche, author of the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, starts on Saturday at the Dzogchen Beara Retreat Centre, Allihies, west Cork.
