Mary McAleese. She is a great role model for women and has done very courageous work in Northern Ireland.

What do you regard as the top three problems facing Ireland's health system?

We need to generate greater awareness of oral health, expand services for children within the health service, especially specialist services, and we desperately need to resolve the stand-off which is preventing reform of the medical card and PRSI schemes.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Golf holidays.

What is your most unhealthy habit?

Not taking much exercise when the weather is cold in the winter.

How do you relax?

Reading newspapers and magazines with a nice cup of tea.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Finola Bruton, David Frost, Nelson Mandela and Sarah, Duchess of York.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A beautiful sunny day on Rosslare Golf Course.

What trait do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty and a sense of humour.

What talent would you most like to have?

A good singing voice.

Do you use alternative/ complementary medicines or therapies?

I don't use them in work, but I have benefited from vega food allergy testing in the past.

What is your earliest memory?

As a toddler being able to walk along the top of the frozen snowdrifts, which were level with the tops of the stone walls. My friend Eileen said if it wasn't frozen I would have disappeared forever.

What is your most treasured possession?

Family photographs.

What other career might you have chosen?

Public relations.

What books or films have inspired you?

The Bible. I read a bit of it every day.
