Focus on footwear

The wrong shoes can derail your workout plan

If you are about to start a new exercise regimen, do not forget about your feet. Wearing the wrong shoes while you work out could cause shin splints, heel pain or injuries that could derail your new workout plan.

The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of Ireland recommends that beginner joggers have their feet checked out to get personalised recommendations about the best type of footwear and whether they need insoles.

The type of shoe you choose should depend on the type of exercise you do. There are different shoes for running, walking, cross training and other sports.

Go shoe shopping later in the day or after your workout, when your feet have expanded, to get the best fit.
