MINDING the Mind is a series of public lectures being held at St John of God Hospital in Stillorgan Dublin. The next lecture in the series is on Wednesday at 8 p.m., and will be given by Dr Ann Marie McMahon, psychologist, on the subject of "Alcohol and Self Esteem". Admission is free. A NEW Outreach programme has been launched to bring massage into the lives and homes of the marginalised sections of society. The programme involves student volunteers from the Institute of Physical Therapy donating a minimum of 5,000 treatment hours annually, providing health care to disadvantaged groups around the country, such as MS sufferers, AIDS patients, and the mentally and physically handicapped. The treatments will be given free at a number of hospitals, shelters and comes around the country by specially trained therapists. Tel: 01-2835566.

ON THURSDAY, the National Dairy Council is organising an Information Evening on Osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) in Jury's Hotel, Limerick, at 8 p.m. The evening is part of a countrywide series on women's health, to raise awareness of osteoporosis and its prevention. Over 80,000 Irish women are estimated to have osteoporosis. The speakers include Dr Annette Hunter of the Limerick Sports Medicine Centre, and family practitioner Dr Josephine Heffernan. Admission is free.

A NEW diabetic day care unit has just opened at the National Children's Hospital on Harcourt Street, Dublin. The diagnosis and treatment of diabetes (the incidence of which is increasing) can cause grief and anxiety to a child. The unit has been opened in order to provide improved treatment facilities for sufferers and their parents.

TRANSFORMATIONAL Empowerment is a nine month course, which takes place over a number of weekends and week nights, lasting from June to March, 1997. Rebirthing, family dynamics, sexuality and body work are some of the ingredients of the course, which is facilitated by three Rebirthing practitioners: Brenda Doherty.
