Handel's Messiah to open festival

The Dublin Handel Festival will be launched in today with a performance of the composer’s greatest works in Temple Bar.

The Dublin Handel Festival will be launched in today with a performance of the composer’s greatest works in Temple Bar.

Messiah on the Street will mark the world premiere of Handel’s Messiah in Fishamble Street in 1742.

The concert will be given by Our Lady’s Choral Society and the National Sinfonia.

The festival, which is now in its third year, celebrates the connections between Handel and the Old City area of Temple Bar.

It features a week of events including free concerts, tours, talks and children’s activities taking place in some of Dublin city’s most historic venues like Old City Temple Bar, Christ Church Cathedral, St Patrick’s Cathedral and St Audoen’s Church.

Temple Bar Cultural Trust said although all events are free but some events are ticketed.
