The U.S. military has dropped all criminal charges against a Muslim Army chaplain who ministered to Guantanamo Bay prisoners in a deal with defence lawyers marking the final collapse of the espionage case against Captain James Yee.

Under the deal announced by the Pentagon, the Army agreed to abandon charges of mishandling classified information while Yee worked at the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

It also dropped lesser charges of violating military law by committing adultery and storing pornographic images on a government computer.
