Army bomb disposal experts have made safe a World War II-era grenade found in Portarlington, Co Laois.
The grenade was discovered during routine renovations at a house on Patrick’s Avenue.
The Army team arrived at the scene at 12.15pm following a request from the gardaí. The grenade was made safe and removed for destruction and the scene declared safe by 12.30pm, a Defence Forces spokesman said.
This year alone, Army disposal teams have responded to 102 call outs, dealing with 33 viable improvised explosive devices and 32 conventional munitions disposal.
