Unions at Greencore have welcomed the endorsement by workers of the Labour Court's recommendations over a dispute between the company and former workers at its Mallow sugar plant.

The Labour Court issued a final clarification of its recommendation last week, setting out the formula to be used for paying redundancy terms to former workers.

In a statement issued today, Siptu and the TEEU welcomed the resolution of the long-running dispute over redundancy terms following the closure of the Mallow plant and management's decision to cease sugar production in Ireland.

Siptu's national industrial secretary Gerry McCormack said: "Our members in Mallow and Carlow are delighted with the outcome, which will see their redundancy terms substantially improved and the integrity of the court's recommendation preserved.

"At a general meeting on March 24, the workers fully endorsed the Labour Court's clarification, and everyone can now look forward to an early payout of the settlement terms agreed," he said.

The company indicated over the weekend that it would abide fully by the terms of the latest Labour Court clarification, which it said should pave the way for a resolution of the dispute.
