Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) allocated funding for research in five areas of green energy development under its Sustainable Energy Doctoral Scholarship programme for 2006.

Five scholars will work in the areas of wind, solar and ocean energy; emerging technologies; and building energy use. Their work will include both basic and applied research in science, engineering, and economics.

Morgan Bazilian, head of energy policy at SEI, said: "The emphasis is on innovative, original and exploratory research, aimed at generating new knowledge and energising Ireland's future growth, development and national competitiveness."
