Goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has been suspended for nine months after testing positive for cocaine, the English Football Association said today.

Bosnich (31) was charged, last December, by the FA for bringing the game into disrepute. The ban takes effect from December 23rd, 2002.

He was sacked by his club Chelsea in January and suspended from all soccer activities until the FA heard his case.

Bosnich has also lodged an appeal against a premier league ruling that upheld Chelsea's decision to dismiss him.

In November he had been diagnosed with severe depression and admitted to a clinic for treatment.

Bosnich joined Chelsea in 2001 on a free transfer from Manchester United but made only seven appearances for the London club before his dismissal.
