An 11-year-old girl was killed today after being struck by a car in north Dublin.

An 11-year-old girl was killed today after being struck by a car in north Dublin.

The child was hit on the Diswellstown Road in Carpenterstown, Castleknock.

She was taken to James Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where she was later pronounced dead.

The collision happened at around 1.50pm. Investigating gardaí said a man driving the car was uninjured.

They have asked for a man who was jogging in the area at the time and who helped at the scene to come forward.

The driver of a blue car which was travelling from the direction of Diswellstown Bridge towards St Patrick's National School has also been asked to get in contact.

Earlier this morning a male driver (18) was killed in a Co Limerick crash.

The man's car hit a wall on the Listowel Road outside of Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, at about 4am. The victim was taken to Tralee General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The road is closed for technical examination.
