A six-year-old girl was the envy of every fan when she found herself on stage with Bruce Springsteen last night at the RDS in Dublin.

Sophie Sutton, from Leopardstown, was plucked from the audience by Springsteen to sing Waiting on a Sunny Day.

Undaunted by being the centre of attention for 35,000 fans, Sophie belted out the chorus of the song when prompted by Springsteen. Despite her tender age, she knew the words.

The schoolgirl is the youngest of five children. Her father Paul Sutton is one of Springsteen’s biggest fans and has seen The Boss at least 30 times.

Sophie’s mother Denise said herself and all the children are Springsteen fans “by osmosis” as they have no choice in the matter.

The couple took Sophie though it was well past her bedtime as she had never been at a Springsteen concert before.

They wangled their way into the pit and to the left of the stage. “Having somebody small with you has its advantages,” Denise said.

Sophie spent the entire concert on her father’s shoulder which brought her to Springsteen’s attention.

It is not the first time that one of the Sutton children has joined Springsteen on stage. The middle daughter, Niamh, danced with him the last time that he was in Dublin, though Denise is adamant that there was nothing staged by either event.

Sophie has been reprising her turn with Springsteen on several radio stations this morning.

“When you are fifth in line, you exude confidence. She is an extremely confident child. She takes everything very easily in her stride,” her mother said.

Sophie is no stranger to performing and goes to the speech and drama group Encore. She has also registered with the company MovieExtras.ie, though no walk-on part is ever going to match what happened last night.
