George Best left Belfast City Hospital today after 10 days of treatment for pneumonia.

Best's manager said earlier he had responded well to treatment and was 100 per cent better. Best's wife, Alex, and several minders met the former Manchester United player and Sky TV pundit at the hospital.

They avoided photographers, whisking Best away in a vehicle with darkened windows, local media reported.

He left the hospital this morning, a spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed later.
