Sacked Irish coach Warren Gatland admits he has still not been given a straight answer to questions raised over his dismissal last month.

Despite steering Ireland to victory over England and the brink of a first-ever win over New Zealand in the last few months, the Kiwi was booted out in favour of former assistant Eddie O'Sullivan.

Having survived intense pressure over his job early in 2000 with a string of impressive victories, Gatland had been seen as the man to guide Ireland towards a strong challenge for the 2003 World Cup.

Instead, the Kiwi will travel home over the Christmas period aiming to find a job to end his unexpected period of employment.

"I have had contact from New Zealand and I will be going back for a few weeks," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Hopefully I will talk to a few people and see if they want to sit down and discuss some options with me."

However, Gatland insists he is still in the dark over the reasons behind his removal from the Irish job.

"We have won 11 games out of our last 15. We were going really well.

"The line is there were a number of factors behind the decision, but I'm not too sure if it came down to any one reason. So far, no-one has been able to give me an answer."
