Gardaí investigating the death of a young man in Waterford city have ruled out foul play but are awaiting the results of pathological tests before confirming how he died.
Supt Chris Delaney of Waterford Garda station confirmed that a post-mortem examination had ruled out an assault.
He said gardaí were awaiting the results of a number of toxicological tests.
It's understood that the young man was with two friends at a house at Shortcourse near the centre of Waterford city when he died.
His friends became concerned when they were unable to wake him at about 7pm on Saturday evening.
They rang for an ambulance and the man was attended to by emergency personnel. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí haven't released his name but it is understood that he was originally from the Cherrymount area of Waterford city.
It is believed that he was training on a FÁS course and may have just been visiting friends at the house where he died.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis carried out a preliminary examination of the body at the scene yesterday afternoon.
His remains were then brought to Waterford Regional Hospital for a full post-mortem examination.
Gardaí said violence had been ruled out but they were awaiting the results of toxicology tests on samples taken at post-mortem.
