The investigation into the shooting dead of a father-of-two in Co Cork has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.
A woman being held in connection with the shooting dead of the 42-year-old Englishman is still being questioned after her period of detention was extended late last night.
The victim, Charlie Wrench, was found shot dead in the bedroom of the house at Dromiscane, Millstreet on Monday night. He lived at the remote cottage for the past 18 years.
The woman being held was arrested at the scene and was being questioned at Kanturk Garda station.
The results of a post-mortem examination carried out yesterday are expected to be known today.
Mr Wrench had two girls aged nine and five and his partner had two children from a previous relationship aged 11 and 19.
It is believed the three younger girls were playing outside the house at the time of the shooting.
Mr Wrench and his partner, who have been living together for less than a year, had returned from a few days visiting Northern Ireland on the day was shot dead.
Mr Wrench's a was shot by his own legally, held single-barrel shotgun. The gun was taken away for investigation.
