Gardaí will today take statements from a protester who fell from a local authority lorry as it drove out of a bin depot yesterday and the driver of the vehicle.

Gardaí will today take statements from a protester who fell from a local authority lorry as it drove out of a bin depot yesterday and the driver of the vehicle.

Protester, Mr Joe Mooney, was hospitalised briefly after being injured in the incident. Gardaí at Malahide are investigating the incident which was film by an amateur cameraman and shown on television news last night.

A Garda spokesman said statements would also be taken from a number of witnesses.

He was discharged from hospital following treatment to minor cuts and bruises. Last night Mr Mooney rejected suggestions that he had acted irresponsibly.

Mr Mooney claimed his leg was entangled in the front of the van which prevented him from getting out of the way of the vehicle.
