Gardai are still seeking help from the public about the murder of the young Romanian man whose body was found packed in a suitcase dumped in the Royal Canal last month.

Detectives investigating the case particularly want to speak to a young Russian woman, who is believed to have been the victim's girlfriend.

The detectives, acting on information which reached them last week after publishing the photograph of the body, have searched a number of apartments in Dublin, in the Sandymount and north inner-city area, where he lived during his two years in Ireland.

Positive identification has yet to be completed, although it seems certain that the dead man is Mr Adrian Bestea. His family is travelling to Dublin to make identification.

The murder is highly unusual and detectives are still trying to work out the reasoning behind the killer's decision to first wrap Mr Bestea's body in a duvet cover and then pack the remains neatly into a suitcase.

It is possible that the killer, or killers, then transported the suitcase across the city from Sandymount to the Grand Canal at Drumcondra, where it was then carried some distance from the roadway onto the towpath between Binn's Bridge and Jones's Road. His hands were not tied and he had not been mutilated.
