Gardaí investigating the death of Dublin man Derek O'Toole have tonight appealled for witnesses to come forward.

Gardaí investigating the death of Dublin man Derek O'Toole have tonight appealled for witnesses to come forward.

Derek O'Toole died when he was hit by a car driven by an off-duty garda in Lucan on Sunday morning.

Gardai said said early indications were that Mr O'Toole (24), of Shancastle, Clondalkin, was "lying on the ground" when he was hit.

"There is no evidence to suggest that he had been assaulted or that any other vehicle was involved. The incident is classified as a fatal road traffic collision," a Garda Press Office statement issued on Tuesday said.

Tonight gardaí appealed "for any person who was in the Lucan Village/Sarsfield Park area between 4.30am and 5.30am last Sunday morning the 4th March, 2007, to whom the Gardai have not already spoken, to contact Lucan Garda Station".
