Gardaí have named the man found dead last night near St Stephen¿s Green in Dublin as Mr Patrick Pepper, aged 40, originally from Stella Gardens in Irishtown in Dublin.
Results from a post mortem inquiry confirmed that Mr Pepper had suffered a violent death and sustained severe facial injuries.
A murder investigation was opened last night following the discovery of the body at the corner of St Stephen's Green, near Baggot street, at the Wolfe Tone monument.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed anything in the area last night to contact them.
