Gardaí have released without charge a man being held in Gurranabraher Garda station, Co Cork, in connection with the money-laundering investigation. A file will be prepared for the DPP.

The man in his forties had been arrested on Friday night after police received reports he had been burning sterling notes in his back garden in Passage West, County Cork.

Yesterday gardaí released without charge a financial adviser at whose house in Farran officers seized £2.3 million during an early-morning raid on Thursday.

The only person charged so far in relation to the Cork money-laundering investigation was a Co Cork chef who was charged on Friday with membership of an illegal organisation at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.
