In the latest haul, detectives from the National Drugs Unit seized cannabis with an estimated value of over €250,000 in New Ross in Co Wexford.

Five houses in the town were raided leading to the discovery of 35 kilos of cannabis in a garage. Two men aged 23 and 35 have been arrested and can be held for up to seven days.

Yesterday, the seizure of one tonne of hashish was made after a van was stopped on the M1 near Whitehall.

Two men, aged 30 and 40, were held following this seizure are being questioned at Santry Garda Station as part of ongoing investigations into criminal activity by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Gardai say up €21 million worth of drugs have been seized in past eight days.

On Monday, National Drugs Unit detectives found 1.5 tonnes of cannabis at Dublin Port with an estimated value of €10.5 million. There were no arrests in the operation conducted by the Drugs Unit and Customs officials.

Last Wednesday a Garda surveillance operation resulted in the seizure 4 kilos of cocaine in Limerick city. Two women, aged 24 and 26, were arrested. The drugs were valued by gardai at around €280,000.
