Gardaí in Galway and Tipperary are investigating two separate road traffic collisions yesterday in which a 74-year-old woman and a 91-year-old man died.

The first incident, involving the woman, occurred at approximately 7am yesterday at Carnmore West, Co Galway.

She died when the jeep she was driving was involved in a collision with an articulated truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dead woman's name has not yet been released.

Gardaí at Thurles are also investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 1pm yesterday on the N8 at Ballymooreen, Littleton, Co Tipperary.

A spokesman for the Garda press office said James Moloney (91), Friar Street, Thurles, was fatally injured when the jeep he was driving collided with a truck.

A front seat passenger in the jeep was also taken to Nenagh hospital with minor injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains were taken to Limerick Regional Hospital.
