Extensive fire damage was caused to the People's Golf Course clubhouse and office in Limerick early yesterday morning.
Three units of Limerick Fire Brigade fought the fire at the Limerick Corporation-owned course at Southill.
The emergency services arrived shortly after 3 a.m. after they were alerted by local people.
Gardai believe the fire which destroyed the premises may have been started by an intruder who broke into the clubhouse. The scene was preserved for forensic examination.

Designed as a golf facility "for the ordinary people of Limerick", it opened almost four years ago and was very popular, and according to the Mayor of Limerick, Mr Dick Sadlier, was set to break even in the next 12 to 18 months.
