Gardai in Limerick are investigating an attack on a prison officer at his home in Ballysimon, Co Limerick, in which he received minor head injuries.
The man was attacked shortly after midnight after leaving his home to investigate a noise.
After finding a youth daubing graffiti on the side of his house he was set upon by an accomplice who injured the officer with what is believed to have been a small pocket knife.
The victim, who works as a prison officer in Limerick prison, managed to return inside his house where he raised the alarm.
