Gardaí in Cork have arrested a women (35) in connection with the murder of a man on New Year's Eve.

Abduazim Sulaymanov (39), originally from Uzbekistan, but with an address at Pinewood, Ballinlough Road in Cork, died last night from wounds he received after he was assaulted at a house in the city on New Year's Eve.

The Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster carried out a post mortem examination, confirming that the cause of death was due to a stab wound.

The woman was arrested in Cork shortly after 8.30am this morning.

She is being held at the Bridewell Garda Station under the provision of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act where she can be held for up to 24 hours.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street are conducting the investigation.
