A man and a youth have been arrested in Dublin after person was stabbed in the leg and gardaí were threatened with a knife in central Dublin last night.

The two men also tried to hijack two cars at the junction of Clanbrassil Street and the South Circular Road, gardaí said this morning.

"A report was received that two youths had robbed and stabbed a man in St Stephen's Green Park just after 7pm", a Garda spokesman said.

When gardaí stopped the two males one of them produced a 12-inch knife and threatened the gardaí before running off.

When officers ran after the man he lunged at them with the knife several times before trying to hijack the two cars. However, he was overpowered and arrested.

Both men taken to Kevin Street Garda station and are due to appear before courts this morning.

The stabbing victim was treated hospital before being released.
