Gardaí investigating the murder of a homeless man in Tralee on Tuesday have arrested a man (24) in the town this morning.

He was arrested at 11.25am and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Tralee Garda Station.

Officers yesterday upgraded the investigation into the death of Eddie Joe Clancy (50) from Lohercannon, Tralee, to a murder inquiry, after a postmortem revealed he suffered serious head injuries in an assault in the town at around 2am on Tuesday.

Mr Clancy was discovered lying in a pool of blood by a passerby at Bridge Street; he died later at Kerry General Hospital.

Supt Pat Sullivan, of Tralee, said yesterday that he believed there were people who may have witnessed the assault and urged them to come forward.
