Gardai in Galway have applied for planning permission to convert one of the city's most exclusive restaurants into a private club.
The Garda Social Club at Mill Street Station is understood to have purchased De Burgos on St Augustine Street, formerly owned by restaurateur Mr Aidan Higgins, for a figure in the region of £450,000.
It is understood the gardai intend to run the facility along the lines of similar Garda clubs in Dublin and Limerick. Nongardai would be able to join as associate members.
