A garda was hurt when a stolen car crashed into a taxi at the weekend. The incident happened at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday in Limerick at the roundabout on the Ballysimon Road.

Garda Noel Griffin of Roxboro Garda station had gone to Ballysimon Road in response to reports that a stolen car was being driven through the area. He got out of the patrol car and was on checkpoint duty when the stolen vehicle crashed into a passing taxi. The taxi somersaulted, hitting the garda.

He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital suffering from a leg injury. His condition was described yesterday as "stable".

Two people, including the taxi-driver, were discharged from hospital after treatment.
