A man hit an off-duty garda with a car in an attempt to flee because he was in fear over a feud in which a pipe bomb went off at his home, a court heard yesterday.

Michael Ward (34), Coolock, Dublin, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident in Blanchardstown last December. He was remanded for sentence to June 19th.

Dublin District Court heard off-duty garda Michael Hughes saw Ward acting suspiciously at his car. When he approached him and showed his warrant card, Ward drove off, hitting the garda on the knee.

His solicitor said Ward panicked because he was involved in a serious feud in his area.
