A group of 12 G8 protesters appeared in court in Perth today charged with trying to block roads to Gleneagles.

They all denied a single charge that they conspired with each other to commit a breach of the peace at the Broxden roundabout on the outskirts of Perth.

It was alleged that they equipped themselves with bicycle locks, placed the locks around their necks and locked them. All 12, one from London and 11 from Belgium, were released on strict bail conditions.

Several more Britons, including some from London and Cardiff, appeared in court in Stirling this afternoon.

It is understood all those in court today are charged with breach of the peace, with the exception of one charge of assaulting a police officer and a second of carrying knives.

All have so far been bailed but with strict conditions imposed by the court, which include providing

an address in the United Kingdom and reporting to a police station in that area each day until July 12th.

They must not also enter Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh or the Perth and Kinross area, except to collect their personal belongings.
