The funerals have taken place in Dublin of a Green Party councillor and his girlfriend, who died tragically in an accident in China two weeks ago.
Fintan McCarthy (37), a teacher and a member of South Dublin County Council since 2003, and his girlfriend Sonya Rabbitte (32), a journalist, were killed in a road crash in Beijing on August 1 st.
The tourist minibus in which they were travelling collided with a truck en route to the Great Wall of China. A Dutch man also died in the crash.
The funerals of Mr McCarthy and Ms Rabbitte took place in their home village of Lucan, Dublin, this afternoon. Both were buried at Esker Cemetery following Mass at St Mary's Church in Lucan.
