Paris - A retired French general who publicly defended torture and killings by his unit during Algeria's long struggle against colonial rule by France was ordered yesterday to stand trial for justifying war crimes.
Judicial sources said Gen Paul Aussaresses (83) had been summoned to appear in court in Paris on July 6th.
