A Garda from the Bureau of Fraud Investigation has received one of the highest European awards for policing excellence.
Detective Sergeant Ronan Galligan received the European Peace Officer of the Year award in Copenhagen last Thursday for work carried out on international credit card fraud.
A garda since 1984, Det Galligan said he was "delighted and honoured" to win the award given that their were so many countries in the running from both Europe and the Middle-East.
Det Galligan is the first officer from Ireland to win the prestigious award.
