A NOTORIOUS criminal who is already serving two life sentences for murder was given a four-year sentence yesterday for dealing heroin from his prison cell.

Gary Campion, originally from Delmege Park, Moyross, Limerick, was given a second life sentence last July for the murder of his former associate “Fat” Frankie Ryan. The 21-year-old died after he was shot twice in the head in Moyross on September 17th, 2006. In November 2007, Campion had been convicted of the murder of Limerick nightclub security man Brian Fitzgerald (34), for which he also received a life sentence.

Limerick Circuit Court heard that Campion was on remand at Limerick Prison awaiting trial for Mr Fitzgerald’s murder when he was found with more than €2,000 worth of heroin in his jail cell.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs for sale or supply at the Mulgrave Street prison on March 1st, 2007. Det Garda Oliver Foley told the court that prison staff discovered the drugs during a routine search of Campion’s cell.
