Four people have been killed in road accidents at the weekend. A man in his 20s has died following the collision of a moped, on which he was a passenger, with a car at Milford, Co Carlow, at 3.40 a.m. yesterday. The moped driver and pillion passenger, and the car driver and passenger were taken to hospital and the pillion passenger died at 6 a.m.

None of the other people was seriously injured. The dead man, who is understood to be from the locality, has yet to be named. In the North, three people have been killed in separate accidents.

Joanne McConville (15) from Randalstown, Co Antrim, was killed when a car in which she was a passenger drove into a telegraph pole outside the town at 1.45 a.m. on Saturday morning. Four other people in the car were detained in hospital.

In Co Down, a woman died when her car crashed on the Hilltown Road outside Newry at about midnight on Friday. Police named her as Ms Rosalina Maguire (25) from Newcastle, Co Down.

At about 11.30 p.m. on Friday, a 27-year-old man was killed when his car crashed into a field on the Comber Road near Newtownards, Co Down. No other vehicle was involved. His name has not been released.
