A 21-year-old man and two Pakistani women who were visiting relatives in Ireland are among four people who have died in separate road collisions since Friday morning.

It brings to 292 the total number of people killed on Irish roads this year.

The two women died after a four-vehicle collision shortly after 6pm on Friday on the N7 at Ballinakill, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

The dead women, named last night as Safiyaben Daruwala and Farida Dholkawala (both 58), were passengers in the rear of a car at the time. They were taken from the scene to Nenagh General Hospital.

"One of them died in Nenagh, and the other was transferred to Limerick Regional Hospital, where she died," a Garda spokesman said.

Six other people were taken to hospital with injuries, but these are not believed to be life-threatening. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the collision or anyone with information to contact them at Roscrea.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man has died after the car in which he was travelling hit a ditch at Drumhaggart, Burnfoot, Co Donegal, in the early hours of yesterday.

The victim, who has not been officially named, died following the incident which occurred shortly after 4.30am.

A Garda spokesman said the car was travelling from Muff towards Burnfoot when it lost control and hit the ditch.

"The collision resulted in the death of one man aged 21 years. The body of the deceased has been taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, along with another man who is seriously injured.

"Two other men were taken to Altnagalvin Hospital, Derry."

Gardaí yesterday also named a van driver who died in a collision at Cashel, Co Tipperary, on Friday morning.

He was William Murphy (43), of Aston Village, Drogheda, Co Louth.
