Two men were recovering in hospital last night, each suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, following separate paramilitary-style punishment shootings in east Belfast and Newtownabbey, at the outskirts of north Belfast. In the first incident, an 18-year-old man was shot in Radnor Street at around 8.20 p.m. The second man was found shot on waste ground in the loyalist Rathcoole Estate in Newtownabbey about 10 minutes later. The injuries sustained by the two men are not believed to be life-threatening.

Yesterday afternoon, a man in his twenties was shot in both legs in Ballyclare, Co Antrim. The RUC described the incident as a so-called punishment attack.

Another man was being treated in Craigavon Hospital following a shooting in Co Down. One man was arrested.
