Four due in court over Dublin raids

Four men arrested on Friday evening in connection with two armed robberies in Dublin are to appear in court today.

The four men, who are all aged in their thirties, were arrested after three men entered a supermarket in the Fonthill Retail Park in Clondalkin at around 9pm on Friday night armed with what gardaí said appeared to be a handgun.

A cashier was threatened and the men left the shop with an undisclosed amount of cash. Gardaí say a silver coloured Volvo was used in their getaway.

Immediately afterwards three men entered an off licence attached to a nearby bar on the Fonthill Road , Clondalkin. Gardaí believe the men belonged to the same gang that carried out the first robbery.

The men produced what appeared to be a handgun and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Shortly afterwards, local garda units and the Crime Task Force stopped a silver coloured Volvo in nearby Collinstown Park. Four men got out of the car and ran.

They were arrested following a short pursuit on foot.
