The weather will remain mostly dry and settled for the Bank Holiday weekend and through the early days of next week also. Cloud amounts will vary but there will be some sunny or clear periods. It will feel cool, temperatures will be around or a little below the October average.

The nights will be rather cold, with sharp ground frost and some fog in places, particularly inland. East to southeast winds will be mostly light or moderate at first but will freshen during Monday and for the early days of next week.

The week ahead for Holiday destinations:

Eastern Mediterranean (Greece and islands, west and south coast of Turkey; Cyprus): An unsettled and mostly cloudy start. Spells of heavy showery rain at times. Cool. Top daytime temperatures 17 to 20C. Brighter during the end of the week with some sunshine, but still the risk of showers.

Western Mediterranean (Italy and Mediterranean, coasts of France and Spain): Generally cloudy. Spells of rain, mostly in the north of the area and over Italy. Windy over southern France too. Best of warm, dry weather near the Spanish coast, particularly the Costa Del Sol. Most places bright sunny and dry by weekend. Daytime temperatures 16 to 19C.

Atlantic coasts of France, Spain and Portugal: A good deal of bright, dry weather over western France, elsewhere wet and windy. Spells of persistent rain, heavy over western Portugal. Sunniest conditions over the south of Portugal. Top temperatures 15 to 19C.

Canaries: Fine, sunny warm and dry.
