A former garda was extradited from London yesterday afternoon and taken to Bray District Court where he was charged with causing the death of a 16-year-old boy in a traffic accident two years ago.

Mr Patrick Spollen (32) is alleged to have been the driver of one of three cars involved in the crash at midnight on June 22nd, 1997, on the outskirts of Bray.

Two young people in a car driven by Brother John Sullivan, a teacher at St Laurence's College, Loughlinstown, died in the accident. Joseph Mulcahy (16), from Bray, died at the scene and Mr Jason Coffey (22), from Deansgrange, Dublin, died in hospital 10 days later.

Mr Spollen was charged with causing the death of Joseph Mulcahy. A further six summonses were handed into court, which included drunk driving, no insurance and making a false declaration to obtain insurance.

He was remanded to appear at Bray District Court on Friday.
